This is a website design adaptation of The New York Times’ Book of House Plants (1973). I discovered this book in my late grandmother’s bookshelf. She had a habit of sticking clippings from magazines, notes to self, and other media into related books, and I wanted to capture that care and love.

I started the process by reading through the book, scanning photographs from the book, as well as the random treasures found within. After, I picked the typefaces YoungSerif and Alegreya Sans because they brought rich retro feeling while relating to contemporary design. I then wove together the images with the body copy, pulling beginning quotes and other excerpts I found funny or interesting.
